Voices From the Past

This is an old house we saw as we drove through Bosque de Oso State Wildlife area in Colorado last week on vacation. As I took this picture, I began to think about the family that might have lived there. Everything about this is pure fiction. I do not know who owned the home or the land in the past.

Voices From The Past
An old house
Windows gone
Falling down
Sad and silent

A new house
Strong and proud
Windows clear
Sunlight pouring in

Small children laughing
Playing in the fields
Dad is plowing
Older sons helping

Mom making bread
Preparing meals
Washing clothes
Making a home

Voices whisper through the ages
Can you hear them?
What would they say
About this home?

Good memories
Sad memories
Both are part
Of this cycle called life

An old house
Windows gone
Falling down
Sad and silent

I like that. It made me think of the feeling I get when I read some of Janette Oke's books. Have you read any of hers? Many of them are about the 1800's and they make you feel like you're in another time, another place.

Kathy - I have read several of her books. My daughter really enjoyed them as well.

Very nice poem and pic, Strawb!

I too love taking pictures of abandoned houses and barns and wonder about the past inhabitants :-)
