Family - Friend or Foe, Part II
The previous post was about my parents and their views on raising their family. I would also like to talk about my in-laws. You might be thinking that by the title - Okay this is where the foe part comes in, but, alas, not so. My spouse's parents are wonderful people and have never treated any of their children's spouses with anything other than complete love and respect. I know the first night I met my in-laws (future at that time), I was not what they had anticipated for their son. They never said a negative word, nor did I ever feel unwelcome in their home. My mother-in-law has always been a great supporter for her children and she carries that over to their spouses. She is always ready to listen and has never said a harsh or hateful thing to me (or about me). My father-in-law has also been a great support for his children and also carries that over to their spouses. Both have accepted and loved their children's mates. What a precious treasure they are to the outlaw spouses! There are always horror stories out there about in-laws, but I think there are a lot more good ones than bad ones. We just don't hear about the good ones as often. So - my goal for today is to honor my father and mother-in-law. They have honored their sons and daughter's spouses with their acceptance and their love throughout our married lives. Both have been a great example of what an in-law needs to be. My spouse and I are now in that territory and it can be very interesting and challenging! I hope we can be as good at being in-laws as mine are. I am very honored to call them my father and mother-in-law!

Wow Strawberry..what a blessing!..nice not to see the dreaded mother in law jokes hun!!!
I count my blessings daily. Aren't we lucky w/ MILs.
Hi Strawberry,
My thoughts are echoed here !My in-laws were not really thrilled with my husband emailing an Indian girl but once we started talking and they realised that I was not just after a green card,it was wonderful. They have been very good to me and treat me like a daughter. They love my family and take good care when my mom comes to visit and vice versa.
My husband(the rascal)gets along very well with my mom too,I think it is because they can be mean to me..together !!
I am truly blessed that everyone likes each other. My mom stayed for 5 months at her last visit and when she left everyone was crying and boo-hooing at the airport!!
You are blessed, Strawb. Your whole extended family sounds wonderful.
I have neither kids nor a spouse, so no in-laws. Fun to read about all of this.
I'm sure you guys will be as wonderful inlaws as parents.
That's very nice sentiments about your in laws. My wife's dad and her step mom have been so helpful and encouraging of our marriage. They do gossip on that side of the family, though. It took a long time getting used to hearing about things - even criticisms - through the extended grapevine.
I'm used to it now, and family visits are something to look forward to.
God bless and have a great weekend!
We are truly blessed with our families.
Donald - our new son-in-law has some of the same problems with our family. It's never meant to be rude or intrusive - just seen as passing information along.
I so appreciate each of you and count you as friends.
