Music, Music, Music!

We just got in from our school's band concert. They do a combined spring concert every year, showcasing every band in this part of the district. The beginner band starts with 6th graders, 2 Jr. High bands - Symphonic and Honors, and High school band. Each band gets to play a couple of songs and then they all play "America The Beautiful" together as one. Our High School band is one of the top in the state for 3-A. The bands for the Intermediate and Jr. High are really strong and are great building blocks for the high school program.

As a high school student, I loved band. I loved marching, football games, concerts, contests, and sightreading. I was not athletic so band was my outlet. I still love music. It touches my soul in a way that nothing else can. The gift of musical ability is truly from God and not everyone receives that gift. However, the ability to appreciate certainly is given to everyone. Music can be a time worship just between you and God. It certainly is that for me most of the time.

Both of my children inherited their musical ability from their father. He is one of the most talented people I know. He can write songs - lyrics and music, play the guitar, and has a tremendous voice. Both children can play more than one instrument and both have wonderful singing voices. What a treasure!
