Urgent or Important?

In all of the hustle and bustle of trying to accomplish way too much in way too short of a time frame - I missed wishing all of my blogging friends a Merry Christmas. I seem to get worse each year in getting the things done that I feel are wanted. Cooking, buying gifts, more cooking, wrapping up gifts -- all seem to be almost overwhelming anymore! I waited until the last minute again this year - to get my Christmas shopping done. But the gifts, the cooking, and all of the other things that seem so urgent are not necessarily the most important!

What is the difference between urgent and important? Urgent is the phone ringing or the doorbell ringing constantly until someone answers. Important is having a conversation with your spouse or child and truly listening to what they have to say without allowing any interruptions! Important is spending time with those you love rather than spending time doing stuff for those you love (Mary vs. Martha). Important is setting realistic goals and telling a friend or your spouse so they can hold you accountable for reaching those goals! You can add to the list of things that are important but I think you get my drift. We allow those things that seem urgent to take over and take us away from those things that are important!

Back to my first paragraph - the most important thing about Christmas is Christ! God came to earth in the form of an infant - helpless in human form but God in Spirit! That thought always overcomes me as I think about Jesus, leaving all of Heaven's glory and His throne to come down to earth in human form! Now there are some who say this story is just a fairy tale or myth - that it's not true. Their response is that Jesus was just a good man, maybe a prophet, but not God. My answer to that is either Jesus was who He said He was (the Son of God) or he was a fake and a liar! He is neither a fake or a liar - He is the Son of the Most High God, our Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor - He is Jesus Christ, my Savior! That is the most important aspect of Christmas! If I understand this part and miss everything else - I have gotten the true meaning of Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Hi Strawberry! I totally agree with you about Christ. I love everything that goes along with Christmas, the food, the gifts, the decorations and lights, but the one thing that makes all of that special is Jesus and remembering his birth and worshiping him! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
