In our travels this past weekend, we got to visit Bosque de Oso State Wildlife Area just west of Trinidad, Colorado. There were sunflowers growing all alond the roads that day. We decided they were just too beautiful to leave without taking a picture. Now in our area sunflowers are normally considered a weed and pulled as soon as possible. However, in this area they are allowed to grow and bloom. In the first light of the morning, the sunflower will open its petals and spread out towards the light of the sun. As the sun continues its trek across the sky, the sunflower keeps its face pointed towards the sun. The flowers shine beautifully as the sunlight reflects off each one throughout the day. At the end of the day as the sun drops below the horizon, the sunflower head drops and the petals close for the evening.
That picture of the sunflower reminds me of how God wants me to go throughout my day. He wants me to wake up, look up to His Son first, giving Him glory and honor and allowing His light to shine on me and reflect off me. He wants me to continue throughout my day, looking to His Son as the Light to shine down on me and reflect His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22) to each person I meet throughout my day. As the day ends, my head dips down in prayer, quietness, and thankfulness for the day and the beauty He brings to my life. It is through His Son and the reflection of His light from His children that all may see His beauty shine.
Next time you see a sunflower, remember to let His Sonlight shine on you and reflect His love to those around you! Blessings to all.
