I read an article on Townhall.com by Fred Thompson talking about the Council on American Islamic Relations. This is an organization that works to promote and lobby Congress on behalf of Muslims living in America. The good news, as Fred points out, is the group is losing financial support, apparently at a fairly substantial rate. Based on the Washington Times report from the group's IRS tax records, their financial support has dropped from 29,000 to 1,700 in the past 7 years. Their membership dues have dropped in proportion to losing members. Okay - so what you ask?! Why should I care if a group representing Muslims in America loses funds and/or members? That should be a good thing - right ? Well - they may be losing membership but their spending is up!!! In addition - they are starting new chapters - 25 in cities across the U.S. I may be slow but even I can see something is wrong with this picture! Losing members, losing membership dues, increasing spending, starting new chapters - where is the support coming from? Fred's last paragraph states "CAIR's not saying. The New York Times earlier this year reported that the backing is from "wealthy Persian Gulf governments" including the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Obviously, we have a bigger problem here than the one with CAIR."
Scary thought about where the support is coming from, but even worse is our own government treats the group as a representative of Muslims! Why?!
