Anniversaries!

Our choir director celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary this past week with a train trip from Chicago to Seattle with his bride. Wow - 40 years - that is an awesome tribute. My grandparents celebrated over 60 years of marriage, my husband's grandparents celebrated 71 years! Right now I cannot imagine being married that length of time, but I also have a hard time remembering when I wasn't married (I wasn't particularly young when we married!). We will celebrate 25 years this summer and most days it seems like yesterday. It is true that as you age, time seems to go so much faster! My parents told all 4 of their children that marriage is for keeps, so you better be sure you can live with your choice! Through the years, they have continued to encourage us. In addition - they will celebrate 50 years next year. My in-laws celebrated their 50th anniversary last summer (the weekend before our daughter's wedding!). With that kind of heritage, I hope my children understand what commitment looks like! They have certainly had wonderful examples in their grandparents and great-grandparents! Of course, they don't see the times when the choice seemed a lot harder to live with - they see the end product. Current thought is that if you are unhappy, you need to find someone else who will make you happy. It is almost a guarantee that if you're unhappy in your current situation, you will be unhappy in your next. Please understand that there is one exception - no one - and I mean NO ONE should live with abuse! Get out - get help! My grandmother refused to divorce my grandfather, but she also refused to live with him and his choices. She honored her vows the only way she knew how. What a profound statement that was to her children and grandchildren (at least to me)! My mom does not talk a lot about her childhood but I know there are a lot of painful memories there. However, she understood what those vows meant when she took them as a very young bride! Thank you, Mom! God honors those who honor His holy matrimony! The marriage that is rooted in His love will find wings to soar. Each individual can bring their unique qualities to the marriage and He will create something absolutely amazing.

That was so beautiful. My thoughts exactly. It just seems like the grass is always greener on the other side rather than coping with a stubborn husband!I guess we tend to forget who brought us together and who wants us to stay together whatever may happen

Indeed, Happy Anniversary, Strawb!

Sadly most people are unwilling to work things out when the hard times hit, and inevitably, they will. And the celebs in our midst aren't very good role models.
